Hi! I am Bob Hislar. I have enjoyed serving the Lord at the Camarillo Church of the Nazarene since 1989. Prior to that, I ministered in the Lancaster Valley View Church of the Nazarene for 12 years. My call to preach and pastor came in 1970. At that time, I was teaching Sunday school at the Highland Park Church of the Nazarene in Los Angeles. Answering God's call to the ministry, I attended Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City. During my last two years at seminary, I pastored a rural church 90 miles north of Kansas City. Upon graduation with a Master's of Divinity degree, I accepted my first pastorate in Lancaster.

Before entering seminary, I taught English and coached cross-country and track at Duarte High School. While teaching, I continued my studies at Pasadena College (now Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego) and received a Master's degree in counseling.

I married DeAnn, my childhood sweetheart (we met when she was 12 and I was 14), in 1964. The Lord blessed us with a son and a daughter of our own, two adopted sons, and a foster daughter. Together, they have enriched our lives beyond our imagination. We enjoy our grandchildren immensely. Teaching God's word and loving His people are my greatest fulfillment. As the senior pastor at the Camarillo Church of the Nazarene, I am the lead servant of a godly and gifted staff and congregation, who love to serve and share the love of God. My greatest desire is to always be faithful and obedient to my Lord in all that I do and say.

 Christy Smith - Youth Director

As a fourth generation Nazarene, I have been blessed to call Camarillo Church of the Nazarene my home since 1995 when my family moved to Camarillo, one block away from the church. The Youth Pastor at the time and my current mentor, Traci Fenimore, made the Youth Group a wonderful place to be where we not only had fun playing, but had fun learning about God as well. I was challenged and strengthened and encouraged by my church family, as I grew closer to God during that difficult time of life we call being a teenager.

I attended Point Loma Nazarene University for four years and received a Bachelor's Degree in Communication. It was then that I met my husband, Matthew Smith, whom I married 2 weeks after graduating in 2005. Not long after settling into married life, I felt God tugging my heart toward the youth of Cam Naz. And as always, He worked out the details and my husband and I moved to Camarillo in March of 2006, which is when my work with the youth here began.

I want to give back to this church what I received when I was a teenager, the glue that held my faith together during that difficult time of growing up: a strong, supportive Youth Group. Our theme is Sol, the Spanish word for sun, which also stands for Sons of Light, and can be found in Ephesians 5:8-10: "For you were once in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord."

My dream for Nazarene Youth International (NYI) on the local level here at Cam Naz is that teens in Jr. High and High School have a safe and enriching environment where they can come to be a part of a group of people that love and care about them; a place where they can learn about God and grow closer to Him through discipleship, worship, and fellowship and find true joy in "the life that is truly life" (I Timothy 6:19), a life in Jesus Christ.
