Our Story

How it all started...

The Church began out of the leadership of several families who were then members of the Oxnard Church of the Nazarene.  In 1964 a group of about 40 Nazarenes, living in or near Camarillo and belonging to the Oxnard Church of the Nazarene, were organized as the Camarillo Church of the Nazarene under the leadership of then District Superintendent, Shelbourne Brown.  After meeting for several months in homes, the church  rented a Masonic Lodge on Anacapa Drive in Camarillo, CA. We met there for 2 years.  Rev. Kenneth Jenkins became the first pastor and served from 1964-1966.  Dr. William Eckel became pastor in 1966 and served until 1968. During this time the church purchased this present location at 2280 Antonio Avenue, Camarillo, CA.  From 1969-1976 Rev. Gene Van Note was pastor.  Dr. Forrest Stone followed him and was pastor from 1976-1986.  For 18 months Rev. Jerry May was pastor from 1987-1989.  Bob Hislar, has served for 26 years from 1989 to 2015.  In 2015, CamNaz called our current pastor, James O'Connell.

In 2010 CamNaz started a Spanish ministry with Pastor Alan Arevalo.  After 10 years of leadership, Pastor Arevalo retired and we hired Pastor Obeth Quintana.  In 2019 we launched a Chinese ministry with Pastor Dongxie.
